Why Art Matters for Veterans

Jessica Ball, Director of the Delaware Division of the Arts, highlights the transformative power of the arts:
“The arts have an extraordinary ability to heal, connect, and inspire. CreatiVeterans offers our veteran community an outlet to explore creativity while fostering camaraderie and personal growth. We are thrilled to make these opportunities accessible statewide.”

Research underscores the benefits of creative engagement, including improved cognitive function, reduced stress, and a sense of belonging. For veterans, art serves as both a therapeutic outlet and a way to connect with peers, combat isolation, and build a supportive community.

Vanesa Simon, owner of Mariposa Arts, echoes this sentiment:
“Through programs like CreatiVeterans, veterans not only rediscover their creative voices but also find support and community. Art brings us together and provides a pathway to new beginnings.”
