Lilith Fest Brings Empowerment and Electric Energy to Dewey Beach May 16
Dewey Beach is about to get loud—in all the best ways.
On May 16, the iconic spirit of the late ’90s Lilith Fair will be reborn at the Bottle & Cork in Dewey Beach, thanks to Project HERA’s signature tribute show, Lilith Fest. This all-female-powered concert kicks off at 8:30 p.m. and promises an unforgettable night of music, unity, and celebration.
A Revival of a Groundbreaking Movement
For those who remember, Lilith Fair—founded by legendary singer Sarah McLachlan—wasn’t just a music festival. It was a movement. Running from 1997 to 1999 and making a brief return in 2010, it was one of the few major tours to put women artists front and center. That mattered then, and it still matters now.
Project HERA, a nonprofit founded in 2017, is picking up the torch McLachlan first lit. According to founder Cathy DiToro, the idea was born out of both passion and frustration. McLachlan’s motivation to start Lilith Fair came after hearing dismissive comments from radio DJs like, “We already have one female artist this week, so we can’t play your music.”
That kind of gatekeeping wasn’t just infuriating—it was a call to action.
What to Expect: A Night of Female-Driven Rock and Soul
Lilith Fest will feature over 20 incredible female vocalists, backed by an all-female band. You’ll hear covers of some of the biggest names from the original Lilith Fair lineup—Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow, Mary J. Blige, and of course, Sarah McLachlan herself.
This isn’t just a tribute. It’s a celebration of sisterhood, art, and the power of live music.
DiToro, who will also be performing, explains it best:
“The original Lilith Fair has always been an inspiration for me. I used to host a ladies’ night of music in Arlington, Virginia, and made so many connections with amazing female musicians. I wanted to get them all together in the same place—to recreate that magical, supportive feeling of Lilith Fair. It’s wild that nothing like it has existed before or since that centers around women, femme, and queer artists.”
