Lewes Boat Parade – 4th of July on the Canal

Each year on the 4th of July, the Lewes Boat Parade brings patriotic flair to the Lewes–Rehoboth Canal as part of the city’s beloved Independence Day celebrations. A long-standing tradition in historic Lewes, Delaware, this festive maritime event draws locals and visitors alike for a star-spangled spectacle on the water.

What Time Does the Lewes Boat Parade Start?

The boat parade officially begins at 1:30 PM, as vessels depart from the Roosevelt Inlet and make their way down the canal toward Fisherman’s Wharf.

By around 2:00 PM, boats pass in front of the judging stand, where officials and spectators gather to see the creativity on display.


Where to Watch the Lewes Boat Parade

The best spot to view the parade is along the Lewes–Rehoboth Canal, especially near Fisherman’s Wharf and Canalfront Park. Bring a chair, grab a snack, and enjoy the patriotic sights and sounds as boats float by dressed in their best red, white, and blue.


Boat Parade Awards Ceremony

After the parade, an awards ceremony is held on the deck of the historic Lightship Overfalls, typically around 3:30 PM. Prizes are awarded for the best use of patriotic decorations, making this both a competition and a community celebration.
