The Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) has identified six cases of Alpha-gal Syndrome (AGS), making it a newly reportable condition in the state. AGS causes an allergy to mammalian meat due to lone star tick bites, presenting symptoms such as hives and gastrointestinal distress. Delaware’s Opioid Response Team (ORT) has issued a warning about a new illicit drug, medetomidine, a potent veterinary tranquilizer more powerful than xylazine. Not approved for human use, medetomidine can cause significant sedation, low heart rate, and, in extreme cases, central nervous system depression and death.
