We are not the only ones to use Delawares massive shoreline. It is host to hundreds of different marine animals, and we need to make sure that we respect them as well. Every so often, this marine life ends up on the beach, and it is important to know what to do when this happens. This includes whales, seals, turtles, dolphins, and more!

Make Sure to Keep Your Distance

The Marine Mammal Protection Act requires people to keep a minimum distance of 150 feet from marine mammals.

MERR

Pretty much all of this information comes from the MERR Institute, which is a non-profit stranding response and rehabilitation organization dedicated to the conservation of marine mammals and sea turtles. It is MERR’s commitment to contribute to the preservation of these species through research and rescue efforts, and to foster greater understanding and appreciation of these species and their habitat through education and enhanced public awareness.

If you wish to support MERR, they have multiple options on their website, such as donations, dolphin tours, MERR license plates (I have one on my car, it is very stylish), and their very own merr-chandise. If you are interested in marine biology, you can also consider volunteering for them! It is important to support the marine life, so make sure to do your part!
