Frequently Asked Questions about the Cape May-Lewes Ferry
Looking for answers to your questions about the Cape May-Lewes Ferry? Look no further! Below, you’ll find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions. If you need more information on a specific aspect of the ferry, just click on the corresponding box.
Do I need a reservation?
Yes! Reservations are required and can be made online or by phone at 800.643.3779. If you arrive without a reservation, we’ll try our best to accommodate you, but please note that space may be limited.
Do you offer standby tickets?
Yes! Standby tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the toll booth when multiple consecutive departures are sold out. Standby tickets are only available for vehicles less than 20′ in total length, and they cannot be reserved in advance. Standby passengers do not have reserved space on the vessel, and there is no guarantee of boarding. If a standby customer does not board their desired departure, a full refund will be provided at the toll booth. Those with existing reservations for a later departure cannot line up in the standby lane without a standby ticket. For more information, please visit our Arriving and Boarding the Ferry page.
Can I bring my dog on board?
Yes! Well-behaved and leashed pets are welcome aboard. For more information, click on the box below.
Can I park my car at the terminal overnight?
Yes! Overnight parking is available free of charge at both the Cape May and Lewes terminals. Please register your license plate with the ticket counter (or the police if after hours) and let us know how long you plan to leave your vehicle before you depart.
Does the ferry sail in bad weather?
Yes! We make every effort to ensure that our crossings depart as scheduled, even in bad weather. However, passenger safety is our top priority, and our marine operations team closely monitors weather conditions. If we need to postpone, consolidate, or cancel departures, reserved guests will be notified via email, text, and/or phone call. We’ll also post an advisory message on our website and social media channels with as much notice as possible.
Is the ferry handicap accessible?
Yes! Although there is no elevator on board the vessels, passengers with accessibility needs can use the elevators inside the terminal and board via the foot passenger walkway. Passengers can repeat the process (in reverse) to disembark and be reunited with their vehicle on the other side. For more information, see the official website here: https://www.cmlf.com/
