Tournaments revolving around Largemouth Bass are quite popular around the rivers and ponds of Delaware (permits are required in all events), owing to the abundance of these fish, as well as their exuberance in fighting off the anglers (they might even leap out of the water in the process). 

While it is arguably the most popular sportfish in Delaware, Largemouth Bass are subject to intense scrutiny and efforts are put into maintaining their populations, taking the fishing activities into consideration.

Usually held between April and November, the results help biologists who monitor and manage bass numbers.
