Discover the Northern Delaware Greenway Trail: A Scenic Journey Through History and Nature
The Northern Delaware Greenway Trail is not just a path through nature—it’s the story of a community’s perseverance. In the early 1990s, residents of North Wilmington stood together against a proposal to build a shopping mall at Rock Manor Golf Course. From that movement, Delaware Greenways was born. By rallying neighborhood groups, government agencies, and community organizations, they set out to create something better: a trail that would preserve the area’s natural beauty and connect communities.
Fast forward 25 years, and the Northern Delaware Greenway Trail has earned national recognition. As the longest and oldest off-road trail in Delaware, it’s now a designated National Recreation Trail, providing recreation, tourism, and health benefits to both rural and urban areas. Not only does it wind through some of the state’s most picturesque landscapes, but it also serves as Delaware’s section of the September 11th National Memorial Trail and the East Coast Greenway.
