Field Trip Friday: Soaring Through the Trees at Lums Pond State Park

Adventure, nature, and future plans took center stage this week during Field Trip Friday! Secretary Shawn M. Garvin Patterson and staff from DNREC (Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control) headed to Lums Pond State Park—and the trip didn’t disappoint.

Up in the Trees at Go Ape Zipline & Adventure Park

The team quite literally reached new heights as they took to the canopy with Go Ape USA, the high-flying zipline and ropes course nestled in the trees above Lums Pond. From rope bridges to swinging tarzan-style into nets, the adrenaline rush offered a one-of-a-kind way to experience Delaware’s great outdoors.

This isn’t just an amusement—it’s a full-body challenge and a great reminder of how outdoor recreation can bring people together while connecting them to nature.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at What’s Next for Lums Pond

Before the climbing began, the team was treated to an insider’s tour of the park. Highlights included:

  • Sprawling campgrounds that host visitors from all over the region

  • The future site of newly planned cabins, which will offer year-round comfort in the heart of the park

  • A peek at the radio control flying field, a unique offering for aviation enthusiasts

Celebrating Parks That Connect People

Special thanks to the amazing staff at Lums Pond State Park for hosting and showcasing all the ways this park continues to evolve. Whether it’s tree-top thrills or quiet camping weekends, Lums Pond is a place where nature and community meet.
